Off for the holidays

Finally, it’s the Easter break. We started it off by bringing some of those laptop computers requiring maintenance to the shop at Saturn in Wolfsburg where we had bought them last summer. After that we had some ice cream before we said our goodbyes. We’ll be back on April 19th. However, I’ve been told that there has been an incident with one of our turtle tanks this evening. So probably some of us are going to have a look tommorrow.

Sutton, Nebraska

Unit 5 in our English textbook deals with a town called Sutton, Nebraska. It sure is nice to get an impression of an American town, however the photos in our textbook are rather old and not really all that motivating. So we used our laptop computers to find something more up to date. And indeed, it only took us a minute to find everything we needed at cityofsutton.org.

This made our teacher think whether English classes in the future might be taught without the assistance of a textbook. It sure would help to save some money.

There ought to be something like an “open source” textbook for English and other subjects, which couldn’t be too hard to do, if there were enough people supporting it. Wikipedia and Linux have proven that community based projects on an epic scale are possible and very prosperous. Anyway, we are open to suggestions.

Preparing for our podcasts

Today all the students took the podcasts of the Stone Bridge High School (Ashburn, Virginia) home to listen to them in order to get some idea for their own audio bits. After all, emulation is the nicest form of flattery, isn’t it?

Something’s afoot

The first step is done. Most of the students now got their own WordPress accounts and will be linked to this page. They also got the permission to contribute to this common blog for all of us.

Hello world!

I am just in the process of adapting this blog to our needs and already
I got stuck with a simple task. It seems like I cannot insert photos
into the blog entries. Uploading works fine but then only an empty
img-tag is generated. I can only hope that Dr Mike is going to be able to assist me.

Well, seems like I still got a long way to go.
